COMPASS program manager California State Library Sacramento, CA
Californians voted to significantly increase arts education for our kids with Prop 28. Now it's time for teachers and teaching artists to fulfill the promise, and local libraries can help. A massive suite of performing arts videos and audio performances has been added to COMPASS from the State Library (formerly the K-12 Online Resources program). Now your library can include Alexander Street collections, completely for free. These include professional performances, documentaries, instructional videos, music tracks, and audio recordings of theatre, world music and spoken word, dance, jazz, classical music, and more. We'll discuss how these collections support the arts education standards, so you can help guide your local teaching artists and teachers. Even better, libraries have performance rights, and you're not limited to just kids in the audience. This is an incredible opportunity for group viewing for children and youth, arts educators, and multi-generational audiences.
