Bringing Animals into the Library

Spark new life into your programming by bringing animals into the library! This presentation will include information about making partnerships with local animal rescues, shelters, university groups, and performers to be able to give your patrons an animal experience. We will discuss the ways to implement animal adoption events, educational animal lectures, and animal encounters, as well as the benefits these programs have for library patrons, staff, partner organizations, and the animals. The presenter will talk about their experience coordinating and hosting cat adoption events, animal presentations, reptile encounters, and guinea pig and bunny adoption events. We’ll talk about the process of starting animal programs from scratch including forming partnerships and securing funding. Advice will be given about running the event including the set-up procedure, best practices for a smooth program, safety and efficiency during the event, and clean up after.
