Librarian in Childrens Services (PLDR) Glendale Library Arts & Culture Glendale, CA
Join the first ever Public Librarian Diversity Residents (PLDR) as they share their experiences in the first half of their three-year residency. Through the lens of their identities as Black and Latina librarians, they will be honest and frank about the balancing act so many new librarians experience, including first days on the job, how they develop and maintain relationships with coworkers and the processes of piloting a co-designed program such as this while developing high impact projects; all through challenges and changes in the library and the community. Focusing on the balancing act, they will also discuss imposter syndrome, being the only Black full-time librarian, and the importance of creating an environment where BIPOC librarians can bring their whole selves to work.
A California LSTA Community Impact Grant funded program, the PLDR provides first professional job experiences that prepare BIPOC librarians for long-term career success as public librarians.
