Children's Librarian Los Angeles Public Library - Echo Park Branch
Do you struggle to find quality bilingual books for your storytime? Can’t find fingerplays and songs to use in your target language? Through our lens as Vietnamese American storytime facilitators, we will share general strategies that can be applied to bilingual storytimes for ages 0-5 in your community’s target languages.
In this workshop, attendees will: - Learn about our strengths-based peer sharing strategies as a potential model to support their own bilingual storytimes - Gain concrete tips and tricks for navigating scarcity of material (e.g. bilingual books, stories, songs, rhymes, etc.) - Learn fun and creative ways to adapt cultural elements and incorporate cultural learning into storytime - Be more aware of diverse needs of a diaspora and reflect on considerations for bilingual storytime audiences - Expand resources with a handful of ready-made Vietnamese-English storytime curricula
This session will be in English, no Vietnamese language proficiency required.
