9 - Literacy (and Joy) in Unexpected Places: StoryWalks in Urban Settings

Through the lens of StoryWalks at the Los Angeles Public Library, we will explore how to build and invigorate relationships with community partners. On our poster, we will detail the process of creating and installing temporary StoryWalks across the city in parks, a science museum, a nature center, and even a pop-up car-free festival. More broadly, we will reflect on the evolution of outreach and explore strategies for library systems of all sizes to support family literacy outside the library through thoughtful collaboration. Viewers can consider the promising pathways in their own ecosystems and the first steps towards cultivating and strengthening those partnerships.
