This poster will provide concrete examples of how to build culturally responsive Family Literacy workshops using reflection. Examples of reflection questions as well as "tips & takeaways" will be available. Learn how reflection exercises can help develop safe, culturally welcoming spaces where meaningful learning can occur. The poster session will share research on why reflection is a valued exercise in adult learning. Learn about culturally responsive programs and how this applies to Family Literacy programs. The presenters propose that by using reflections and cultural responsiveness, we build on the larger cultural context and experiences of the participants, increasing the likelihood that participants implement the workshop’s lessons in early literacy practices. Using examples from CLLS and other sources, the poster will illustrate why the results of using reflection are important to Library Literacy Services. Finally, the poster will provide multiple ways to use reflection to create a culturally responsive Family Literacy workshop.
