Library Services Manager - San Pablo Library Contra Costa County Library
This session will highlight adaptive re-use case studies from multiple perspectives: planning, library services and programs, user experience, design opportunities, and cost. Each project reflects economic, community, and operational value additions, and re-imagining vacated high-profile retail buildings into landmark libraries.
Attendees will hear from Sacramento Public Library, where the Elk Grove Library (under construction) revitalizes a vacated pharmacy in the city’s historic Old Town fabric, and Contra Costa County Library, where the transformation of the San Pablo Library has received acclaim since opening. From planning and community engagement to site identification and implementation, we will share the successful strategies and key lessons learned from the libraries, planners, and designers.
Attendees will engage in an interactive budgeting activity exploring the costs and values of adaptive reuse compared to building new, and the opportunities that can be unlocked, including maximizing services and spaces, designing for future flexibility, and promoting inclusivity and wellness.
