Library Literacy Assistant Contra Costa County Library
While a one-on-one tutoring model like that delivered in many CLLS programs provides individualized support, it can also be isolating for adult learners. Over the past few years, Project Second Chance (PSC), Contra Costa County Library’s adult literacy program, has revamped its learner support programs to focus on the priorities of developing community and centering the holistic needs of our learners. Two of these efforts have included “PSC News”, a quarterly newsletter, and “PSC Reads”, a series of events where learners come together to explore a chosen book. Both “PSC News” and “PSC Reads” foster active learning by incorporating interactive activities, allowing learners to explore a diverse range of topics relevant to everyday life, while providing opportunities for connection and community-building. In this interactive session, there will be a 30-minute presentation about the current programs that we are running, and there will be some time for discussion.
